Scholarship: Fully-funded
Degree: B.S./M.S./Ph.D
Nationality: International Students
Location: USA
Application deadlines: Fall 2024
Scholarship Description:
Dr Tao’s laboratory seeks to understand the molecular mechanisms of cancer and metabolic diseases (obesity, liver disease and type 2 diabetes) and to develop mechanism-based strategies for early diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.
Specifically, we use chemical biology, molecular biology and physiological methods to study the occurrence and function of protein fatty acylation in the development of cancer, metabolic diseases and drug resistance using in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo models and human samples (Nature Communications, 2022; Oncogene, 2023).
At the same time, the lab aims to elucidate the mechanism of signalling in human diseases (Redox Biology, 2023; iScience, 2023; Cell Death Discovery, 2021; Cell Death & Disease, 2018) and provide a strategic rationale for the treatment of these diseases.
Texas Woman’s University (TWU) is a public, coeducational university in Denton, Texas, with two campuses in Dallas and Houston focused on health sciences.
Dr Tao is committed to the academic success of the students in his laboratory, which is enhanced by his education and training at prestigious universities (Virginia Tech and Harvard University Medical School). Under Dr Tao’s supervision, Dr Tao’s trainees have been accepted into top medical schools and graduate schools.
Available Subjects:
- Molecular mechanisms of cancer and metabolic diseases (obesity, liver disease and type 2 diabetes)
Eligibility criteria:
- Applications are invited from those with a M.S. in biological sciences (e.g., nutrition, chemical biology, biochemistry, molecular/cell biology, or a related field). For those who don’t have an M.S. degree, a master’s program could be an option prior to pursuing a Ph.D. program.
- Research experience in studying cancer, protein lipidation, and mouse models, is considered a plus; so are peer-reviewed publications in international journals.
Application Procedure:
- Interested applicants should send their materials (CV, personal statement, TOEFL/IELTS) to Dr. Tao at [email protected] and finish the online application.
