Scholarship Description:

The study is primarily concerned with the way in which the peripheral nervous system regulates peripheral tissues (including the myocardium and skeletal muscle) in pathophysiological conditions like heart failure and ischemia-reperfusion injury. It is receiving funding from the NIH.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or its equivalent in Medicine/Physiology or a related area. The chosen candidate should be able to learn some electrophysiological methods and animal procedures, including measuring skeletal muscle movement, end-plate potentials, heart sympathetic nerve activity, neurotransmitter release, and optogenetics.

They will create experimental procedures, gather, examine and interpret data, and write and present scientific reports. They will also draft scientific papers for publication in journals and apply for grants. They will attend interdepartmental gatherings, journal clubs and local and national scientific meetings.

The candidate should use their previous abilities and knowledge to develop new experimental designs, methodology, data interpretations, and scientific objectives. The pay range will be based on experience. Former familiarity with performing cardiovascular and neurophysiological experiments is preferable.

Eligibility criteria:

  • The Postdoctoral Fellow will design experiments, collect and analyse data, and interpret results. They will prepare both spoken and written scientific presentations, like sharing findings at local, state, and national events, submitting articles and project proposals, and attending scientific symposia and journal clubs.It is expected that the applicant will be able to incorporate previously acquired skills and knowledge into new experimental designs, methodologies, data interpretation, and scientific objectives. Experience in cardiovascular and neurophysiological experiments is preferred. Salary range (~5.5w/year) is based on UNMC regulations and performance.
