The University of Florida (UF) is looking for two highly motivated PhD students.

Scholarship: Fully-funded
Degree: Ph.D
Nationality: International Students
Location: USA
Application deadlines: Fall 2024

Scholarship Description:

Research in Dr Feng Yue’s laboratory focuses on the novel cellular and molecular mechanisms that govern the fate choices of muscle and adipose stem/progenitor cells in the context of muscle disease, obesity and ageing.

Using versatile genetic mouse models, primary cells, patient biopsies and isolated organelles, research in the Yue lab brings together cutting-edge single-cell omics, state-of-the-art imaging, high-resolution bioenergetics and stem cell technologies to address important and fundamental questions in skeletal muscle biology and adipose metabolism (Cell Rep, 2016; eLife, 2016, Nat Commun, 2017; Adv Sci, 2020; Molecular Therapy, 2021; Cell Rep, 2022; Nat Commun, 2023.

The University of Florida is ranked 5th among US public schools and 28th among US national universities.

The Laboratory of Stem Cell and Metabolism is part of a scientific community with a dynamic atmosphere of basic, translational and clinical research, including the Center for Regenerative Medicine, the Myology Institute, the Genetics Institute, the Diabetes Institute and the Institute on Aging.

The laboratories are well equipped and the successful applicant will join dedicated, experienced and highly motivated teams of mitochondrial biologists and cell physiologists.

Research in the Yue lab is fast-paced and exciting, at the forefront of molecular insights into mitochondrial biology, tissue development and human metabolic disease.

 Available Subjects:

  • 1) the fundamental mechanisms that control mitochondrial dynamics and tissue development, and
  • 2) the stem cell and regeneration of skeletal muscle.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Strong passion for science and commitment to research
  • A recent MS or BS degree relevant to the biological sciences;
  • Previous experience in biochemistry and/or cell and molecular biology is desirable;
  • Expertise in single cell transcriptomics and spatial omics with bioinformatics would be an advantage;
  • Productivity from previous training is additional;
  • Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills and experience in data collection and analysis.

Application Procedure:

Applicants should send a covering letter, curriculum vitae and contact details for 3 referees to Dr Feng Yue at [email protected].
