Scholarship Description:
Dr. Tang, who joined the University of Florida’s Department of Chemistry as an assistant professor in August 2024, is establishing an independent lab (https://tang.chem.ufl.edu/). He earned his bachelor’s and PhD degrees in chemistry from Wuhan University. Dr. Tang has published 20 SCI papers, with first-author articles in PNAS, JACS, and NAR.
He is a recipient of the K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award. The lab is well-funded and currently has two postdocs, five PhD students, and a research assistant. They are seeking one postdoc and several PhD students.
Outside the lab, Dr. Tang has won multiple tennis championships in Wuhan and Central China. He welcomes students who are passionate about research, life, and sports, as physical and mental health are essential for scientific work.
Available Subjects:
- Leveraging mass spectrometry, gene editing and next-generation sequencing techniques to study how DNA damage induced by environmental exposure and endogenous metabolism contribute to cancer and aging related diseases
Eligibility criteria:
- All backgrounds are welcome. The lab offers a comprehensive training program and daily mentorship. Candidates with experience in chemical biology, mass spectrometry, sequencing, bioinformatics, or machine learning will be prioritized.
- Candidates should be reliable, diligent, and possess good teamwork skills.
- Applicants should have a PhD degree or be nearing completion in chemistry or life sciences, with experience in NGS sequencing, nanopore sequencing, or bioinformatics preferred.
- First-author publications in reputable journals during the PhD are a plus.
- Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work independently on research projects and should be reliable, diligent, and team-oriented.
