Scholarship Description:
Professor Wang Kaile is currently the research group leader at the Center for Excellence in Molecular Cell Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He explores the origin and evolution of tumor cells by developing and applying high-throughput single-cell and spatial sequencing technologies.
His group previously developed high-throughput single-cell DNA sequencing techniques, spatial labeling methods for single cells, and various low-frequency mutation detection methods based on high-throughput sequencing. They systematically studied the clonal evolution from primary to recurrent breast cancer, revealing the clonal evolution model and identifying genomic variation events associated with breast cancer recurrence, providing targets for future treatment.
The group will continue to address questions about tumor cell origin and evolution through high-throughput single-cell multi-omics and spatial omics sequencing technologies. Key topics include how somatic mutations lead to tumorigenesis, multi-omics characterization of tumor initiating cells, spatial localization, interactions with the microenvironment, and the relationship between aging and tumors.
