Scholarship Description:
Shenzhen University School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering
Founded in January 2019, the School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering at Shenzhen University was formed by merging the former School of Optoelectronic Engineering, School of Physics and Energy, and the relevant sections of the School of Electronic Science and Technology. Its roots trace back to the establishment of the Applied Physics Department in 1985. The school has developed a comprehensive talent training system with undergraduate, master’s, PhD, and postdoctoral programs. It offers four undergraduate majors: Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, Physics (including Teacher Education), Measurement and Control Technology and Instruments, and Nuclear Engineering and Technology. There are also master’s and PhD programs in Optical Engineering and Physics, along with postdoctoral positions.
Since 2012, the Optical Engineering discipline has been recognized as a “Key Discipline in Guangdong Province,” and in 2015, it was selected for key development as part of high-level universities in Guangdong. In 2019, it was ranked second nationally in the ShanghaiRanking’s Best Subjects. In 2020, Instrumentation Engineering ranked 33rd nationally and among the top 100 globally. In 2021, a PhD program in Physics was approved, and in 2023, US News ranked Shenzhen University’s optics sixth globally and first in China. The ESI ranking for Physics is among the top 0.5% worldwide and top 30 nationally.
Research Directions and Collaborating Supervisor
Collaborating Supervisor: Li Jun
Dr. Li Jun is a distinguished professor and PhD supervisor at Shenzhen University, recognized as a National Excellent Young Scientist and Guangdong Province Distinguished Young Scholar. He earned his PhD in Physics from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2015 and joined Shenzhen University in 2023. His research focuses on quantum system control, quantum computing, and quantum precision measurement. His team promotes a cutting-edge research environment, combining theoretical and experimental approaches, and maintains close collaborations with leading quantum teams. He has published over 50 papers in renowned journals like Physical Review Letters and Physical Review X, and leads several national and provincial research projects. The group, based at the Shenzhen University Institute of Quantum Precision Measurement, aims to develop methods for quantum system control and new quantum sensing technologies.
