Scholarship Description:
A postdoctoral research position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Dongze Zhang, MD, PhD in the Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at the McGovern Medical School of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
The Zhang laboratory is interested in studying the mechanisms responsible for sympathetic and parasympathetic neuronal dysfunction-related ventricular arrhythmias in heart failure and diabetes, which is currently funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) R01 and R21 grants.
The focus of the immediate project is to explore the antiarrhythmic mechanisms of renal denervation for developing novel therapeutic strategies to treat myocardial infarction-induced ventricular arrhythmias.

Eligibility criteria:
- 1. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree or equivalent in Biology or Medical Science.
- 2. The successful candidate must have experience in a broad array of molecular biology techniques, including Western blot, PCR, ELISA, immunofluorescence staining, etc.
- 3. Candidates with background in cardiovascular research and neuroscience are preferred.
- 4. The successful candidate should have the ability to review scientific literature to define specific problems and possible solutions, work on multidisciplinary projects, and join us for a minimum of two years.
- 5. Qualified candidates should have a publication record as the first author in peer-reviewed journals in Physiology, Biology, or Medical Science.
- 6. An ideal candidate should have the ability to analyze and evaluate data independently, as well as draft manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
