Scholarship Description:

Aisi Zhi is a Nanshan Scholar Professor and PhD supervisor at Guangzhou Medical University, serving as the Deputy Director of the Institute of Neuroscience at the affiliated Brain Hospital and Director of the Sleep Medicine Laboratory. He is recognized as a young talent by the China Association for Science and Technology, recipient of the Guangdong Outstanding Youth Fund, and a high-level youth talent in Guangzhou. He holds academic positions on the board of the Chinese Sleep Research Society and as Vice Chair of the Youth Working Committee.

Research Interests

His research focuses on the mechanisms and intervention strategies of sleep disorders that induce cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. He has led a national key R&D project, three National Natural Science Foundation projects, and over ten provincial and municipal projects. In the past five years, he has published over 40 SCI papers in prestigious journals including Eur Heart J, J Am Coll Cardiol, Nat Hum Behav, and Lancet Healthy Longev, with more than 20 as first or corresponding author (including co-authored). He has applied for five invention patents and holds six software copyrights. He has co-authored two graduate textbooks and three guidelines/consensus documents on sleep disorders. He serves as an academic editor for Depression and Anxiety and reviews for over 20 SCI journals, including BMJ, Circulation, and Eur Heart J.

The department is a national “Double First-Class” discipline and a key clinical specialty, ranked sixth in the country. It offers master’s and doctoral degree programs and a postdoctoral fellowship station. The research group has a comprehensive training system, excellent clinical and basic research facilities, abundant biological sample resources, strong domestic and international collaboration, and adequate research funding. It is equipped with over ten polysomnography devices, more than 200 motion recorders, and advanced platforms for sleep rhythm neuroscience research, including two-photon and confocal microscopes.

The team currently includes four dedicated researchers, ten postdoctoral fellows, and over 20 graduate students and research assistants. Due to the needs of discipline development and research work, we are continuously hiring postdoctoral researchers and research assistants, with openings available each year.  Available Subjects:

  • Basic/Bioinformatics Research: Investigating the mechanisms and intervention strategies of sleep-wake disorders (e.g., insomnia) and their role in triggering cardiovascular and neuropsychiatric diseases.
  • Clinical/Translational Medicine Research: Conducting genetic epidemiology, Mendelian randomization, and multi-omics studies on sleep-wake disorders in large community populations. Developing non-drug intervention strategies for sleep-wake disorders, such as sound-closed loop stimulation and vagus nerve stimulation technologies.



Eligibility criteria:

  • Eligibility: Under 35 years old, with a PhD from a reputable domestic or international university within the last three years. Must have experience or a solid research foundation in a specific area, with published SCI papers as first or corresponding author, and be able to commit full-time to postdoctoral work.
  • Research Background: Strong background in basic neuroscience, bioinformatics, neurobiology, neuroimaging, biomedical engineering, psychiatry, psychology, artificial intelligence, or big data.
  • Skills: Strong communication and coordination skills, ability to innovate independently, team spirit, and research capability. Excellent English proficiency for reading literature and writing papers.
  • Compliance: Adhere to the constitution and laws, uphold academic integrity, and follow the regulations of the university and hospital.
