Scholarship Description:

Dr. Xiaogang Wang lab in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology at Virginia Tech is seeking a highly motivated graduate student to begin in the fall of 2024 or Spring of 2025 to pursue research on the pathogenesis of bacterial infections, extracellular membrane vesicles, and vaccine studies. 

We are seeking students who are passionate about research, motivated to explore new ideas, and willing to work in a team environment. A strong background in one or more of these areas is required: microbial pathogenesis, immunology, eye diseases, and exosomes. The candidates are expected to have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Eligibility criteria:

To be considered for a PhD position in DBSP at Virginia Tech, you are expected to:

  • hold a bachelor’s or a master’s degree in microbiology or immunology, or from related fields.
  • TOEFL score: 90 (IBT) 
  • Optional GRE (Minimum Scores): 150 Verbal, 150 Quantitative
  • GPA: Equivalent of a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Academic and professional goals statement describing research experience and plans for research in your graduate studies.
  • Three letters of recommendation, preferably from faculty members at colleges attended who are familiar with the applicant’s academic and research capabilities.
