Scholarship Description:

Dr. Shiwei Fang is an assistant professor at the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences, Augusta University (Augusta, Georgia, USA). He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2021 and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at UMass Amherst from 2021 to 2023.

Augusta University is one of four research universities in the University System of Georgia. Its oldest medical school was established in 1828. The School of Computer and Cyber Sciences became independent in 2017, began offering undergraduate degrees in 2018, graduate degrees in 2020, and Ph.D. programs in 2021. The faculty has doubled in recent years, including NSF Career Award recipients, and continues to grow as a key focus area for the university. Augusta University ranks 106 in CSRankings.

Augusta is the second-largest city in Georgia, bordering South Carolina, and is close to major Southern cities like Atlanta, Charlotte, and Columbia. The climate is pleasant, and the cost of living is low.

Cyber-physical systems, such as the Internet of Things and WiFi sensing

Eligibility criteria:

  • Interest and self-motivation in research.
  • Enjoy discovering and solving problems.
  • Background in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering (experience in both software and hardware is a plus), with a bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • GPA above 3.0, TOEFL score above 79, or IELTS score above 6.5 (as required by the college).
